I work in response to an unfolding vision. Long before anyone commonly went as missionaries and evangelists into Eastern Europe, I had answered the call of God on my life. Looking back over 60 years of ministry I have seen the most amazing things! I have seen God come and touch a nation – in Hungary, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Georgia, and Lithuania – He has healed me of cancer twice and released me from a communist prison, but yet the scripture says we have not seen, heard or imagined all the wonderful things God has prepared for us! I believe I am still only at the beginning of what God has called me to do – these are the last days before Christ’s return and I’m throwing everything into the battle! But we’re going to win because we have victory in Jesus’ Name! The Apostle Paul, writing to the Philippians, said that there has never been the slightest doubt that the God who started this great work will bring it to a flourishing finish!
It is 50 years since I first went to Israel. In May 1961, after ten years as a full-time pastor and evangelist in Britain, my ministry to Russia and Europe began when I organized the first post-war overland expedition to Jerusalem, travelling behind the Iron Curtain through Arab countries and into Israel. I was determined to attend a World Pentecostal Conference in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost! Everyone from the motoring organizations to the British Foreign Office said it was too dangerous: there were the hazards of crossing the Iron Curtain countries, on unknown roads, without suitable hotels. But my heart was set – I believed if I went by faith, revival would come and I would experience another Pentecost. It was only in 2001 when I was holding my own conference in that same hall in Jerusalem, that I realized although I didn’t find what I was looking for in 1961, God had used that event to dramatically change my life. Without it, I would never have smuggled Bibles or been privileged to evangelize in Russia and across Europe.
Our services in Tel Aviv this month – 28, 29, 20 April – are a fulfillment of what God put in my heart all those years ago. I believe that God will touch the lives of those attending and those watching on the internet. He will also pour out His Spirit in Poland, Ukraine and Holland this autumn! – Join us in prayer!
